GAA - At a special occasion held recently in the Park Hotel Clonmel to present the Killenaule All-Star Awards of the past 25 years the Football team was as follows Matthew O'Donnell, Thomas Mossy Mullins, Paddy Codd, Michael Fitzgerald, Derek Healy,Davy Ahearne, Michael Brennan, Sean Ryan,Brendan Fitzgerald, Petr Kennedy, Davy Lawarence, Philip Blake, Kenneth Cleary, Tony Doyle, Eddie O'Brien.
The Hurling Team was, Jimmy Butler, Declan Ryan, Tom Shelly, Willie Gleeson, Declan Fanning, Joe O'Dwyer, Joe Ceasar, Donie O'Connell, Martin Shanahan, Patrick Festy Kerwick, Niall O'Dwyer,Tony Shelly, John Bubbles O'Dwyer, Paul Shelly, Larry Hayes R.I.P.(capt).
The 2010 season began brightly for Killenaule U21 Football Team with a win over a Carrick Swans.The final score was Killenaule 3-11 Carrick Swans 1-8.

Slieveardagh Lecture Series: Tales of Tipperary -Stories & Film by John Cash on Wednesday 24th February 2010 at 8pm in Slieveardagh Centre Killenaule. Admission Fee € 5.00. Refreshments will be served.
Room rental is available in the Centre 5 days per week.Excellent Rates. Please contact the office for further details (052- 9156165).
Office Services-The following Office Services are available in the centre, Photocopying. Colourcopying,Typing, Laminating, Binding, Dance / Debs Tickets, Raffle Tickets (books), Posters, Business Cards, Booklets, Invitations and Faxing. Broadband internet Access is now available to the public in the Slieveardagh Centre, only €2.00 for one hour.
Limited Edition Kilcooley Abbey Calendars are on sale in the Centre Killenaule.Only 500 Calendars were printed and each numbered and will become a collector's item in the future. The calendars are only € 5.00 each.

 

Killenaule Active Retirement : Art & Craft Classes will resume on Thursday 11th March in Old Vocational School from 2pm to 4pm funded by South Tipperary V.E.C. All members are welcome.
Next Meeting on Thursday 4th March in St. Mary's Hall at 2-3

 

I.C.A.: Five week course in crafts is taking place the Enterprise Centre(upstairs) every Wednesday 2-30pm to 4pm. Instructor Marie Crean will help members to do a craft of their choice.


 

 

Week 21-02-10

Senior Citizens - At the first Meeing of Senior citizens 2010 held in St. Mary's Hall on Wednesday, February 10th,there was a good turnout considering the cold weather. Mass was celebratedby Fr. Francis Mc.Carthy. Afterwards, tea and the usual tasty sandwiches and cakes, bingo and entertainment by the Carroll brothers.
New Officers: Chairman: Tim Finn. Vice Chairman: Pat Hayes. Secretary: Mary Mc.Ginn. Asst.
Secretary: Eileen Moloney. Treasurer: Rena Slattery. Asst. Treasurer: Katherine Veares.
The club needs more helpers, please volunteer your service.

 

Garden Club - Good attendance of members at the first meeting of 2010 and everyone anxious to get digging.The guest speakeron the night, Hans Vos, Cashel brought along many house and outdoor plants and shrubs. He spoke on the planting and care of each plant. Hans also spoke on vegetables grown from seed and the care they need. Meeting ended with tea and biscuits.
Next meeting on Tuesday March 9th in Sports Complex at 8pm sharp.

 

Craft Classes: Classes in Enterprise Centre (upstaires) each Wednesday 2.30pm to 4pm.
Bring along any unfinished craft and get it completed and take part in work and chat.

 

Tobar Well - Work is at present taking place to improve the appearance of this local landmark at Crosscannon.

fund raising for Danny 0' Dwyer, Ballynonty, Who was seriously injured some months ago.
When the Fundraiser calls your donations will be gratefully accepted.

 

Daffodil Day Committee Meeting. Will be held in St. Mary's Hall on Thursday 25th February at 11.00am.
The group will be glad if new members would volunteer and any new ideas for fundraising would be welcome.
Tea & Coffee will be served.

 


 

Week 14-02-10

 

Killenaule I.C.A.: Meetings resumed after winter break on Tuesday 2nd February in St. Mary's Hall.Report was given by President on the launch of I.C.A. Centenary at Dublin Castle by President of Ireland Mary McAleese and the upcoming events to be held locally and nationally. The Annual Easter raffle tickets are now on sale and arrangements are being organised for Easter Sunday lunch on 11th April. Social Dancing will start as part of the Go For Life programme and Craft Classes Will be held in the Enterprise Centre on Wednesdays 2-30 to 4pm. Dates to be finalized. Naxt Meeting will be held on 2nd March and will be the Annual General Meeting.

Killenaule Active Retirement: The Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday 3rd February at 2-30pm New Officers Elected - Chairperson: John Burke,Vice Chairperson: Teresa McGarry, Secretary: Mary Sirr. Assistant Secretary: Rena O'Connor,Treasurer Patricia Burke, Assistant Treasurer: Mary Delaney, Tour Organiser:Eileen Moloney. Art & Craft classes are starting in the old Vocational School on Thursday 25th February from 2pm to 4pm.These classes are funded by the V.E.C.and all members are welcome. Aqua-aerobics in Thurles Swimming Pool on Fridays

Thurles Cancer Support Group: This is a support group is for people who have had a cancer diagnosis. Family,relations and friends are welcome.The purpose of the meeting is to give members an opportunity to meet other members, chat and have a cup of tea or coffee and to support others in a similar situation. The Group meets on the 1st Tuesday of every month.

Great Anger: Great anger was shown and expressed by Teachers, Parents and Students of St. Mary's Central School on Tuesday morning last at the unwonton damage done to the beautiful primery School, The school had it's doors, windows and office furniture destroyed. The cost of repairs will fall on the parents and the wider community of Killenaule. Let us hope that those who caused the damage will be brought to justice.

Rosary Broadcast: The success of the rosary broadcast each morning following mass is much appreciated throughout the parish.Tune into 106.10fm and join your fellow parishioners in prayer.

Local Fundraising for Haiti: The Childern of St. Mary's Central raised € 800 by holding a cake sale. In Moyglass a total of € 785 was raised in a Church colection.

Public Meeting: A public meeting will be held in the Community House ,Ballinonty on Thursday 11th February at 8 p.m.The purpose of the meeting is to organise a fundraiser for Danny O'Dwyer,Killeens who was involved in a serious accident recently. All are welcome.

Retirement Celebration: At a function held recently in Inch House Mrs.Josie Tierney, Cashel Road was presented with a beautiful piece of Waterford crystal by the Board of Management of St. Mary's School for 30 years service to the children attending the school.Josie thanked the board of manegement for their gift and said she had and would have in her retirement happy memories of St Mary's Killenaule.

Playground: Children from all areas of the town are availing of the many activities that are part of the well equipped new playground.Children are always accomanied by their parents and supervision is observed.

Local Republican: The story leading up to the arrest, trial and execution of George Plant, St Johnstown in the parish of Killenaule in March 1942 in Portlaoise Prison will be shown on TG4 on February 11th & 18th at 10-15pm.

Congratulations: On Wednesday afternoon January 28th a special party was held in Bailey House Nursing Home to celebrate the ninety seventh birthday of resident Lizzie Long attended by her family and friends and fellow residents.

Garden Club: Meetings resume on Tuesday 9th February in the Sports Complex at 8pm.Hans Nos willgive ideas on preparing your garden in spring.
