Fr. James
It was with sad regret that we said goodbye to our curate, Fr.
James O'Donoghue, who has served the people of Moyglass and Killenaule
for the last 5 years. Fr. James always put his heart and soul
into his work and always put St. Joseph the Worker Church first
and his parishioners, especially the sick and dying. He was always
available for his parishioners day and night.
He will be best remembered for his funeral liturgies that were
always to the point and always reflected the persons life; his
intention tree at Christmas that raised money for a charity close
to his heart, South Tipperary Hospice;
the Easter garden that reflected the Lord's last journey before
his death and the "Do This in Memory of Me" Masses where
the communion children also got involved and organised the mass.
He will also be remembered for the special Mass he celebrated
for local youths that were involved in a serious car crash. Even
to this day, the youth of our community still talk about it.
While he was in our parish, he worked hard with Moyglass and Ballinure
Board of Managements and finance committees to complete the state
of the art extensions to both of our schools.
Since his mother Eileen retired from her job in Cork and moved
up to Boherlahan, she became a regular visitor to Moyglass, where
she got involved in the community and made many friends in the
area.
One of his keen interests is the love of music; while he was
in our parish he joined Slievenamon Musical Society, where he
took part in their productions year after year. He followed the
game of rugby, especially the Munster and Irish teams and not
forgetting his native Cork Hurling team. It was always interesting
when Cork and Tipperary were playing, Fr. James would always pray
for a safe journey to the match and pray that the best team would
win. We all knew what team he was saying that extra prayer for!
At the end of his final Mass in Moyglass, the choir ended with
"God be with you till we meet again". This is our prayer
and our wish as you settle into your new parish in Hollyford,
Kilcommon and Rearcross.
As you are surrounded by the hills, we hope that you enjoy the
peace and tranquility of the area, and that the rays of the divine
mercy and Our Lady's Mantle will always guide and protect you
in the years to come.
Many years ago, Fr. James went to Hollyford as a student from
the college to speak on vocations. As he was leaving, Fr. John
Fogarty R.I.P., shook his hand and told him he would be back again
as a priest in this parish in the future. His words are coming
to pass now.
From the people of Killenaule and Moyglass, we thank you for
serving us so well for the last 5 years.
We welcome Fr. Francis
to our parish, a native of Thurles. Fr. Francis is coming back
to his roots as his relations come from Buffana and Curraghscarteen.
We pray that you will have many happy years with us in our parish.
