Week 29-05-09

 

May Procession 2009. The Annual May Procession will take place throught the grounds of St. Mary's Central School on Friday 29th May 2009 at 1.15 p.m.

I.C.A. The I.C.A. wish to thank Vincent for the use of his tea room in Centra, and his staff for all their help on Alzheimers Tea Day on May 7th. The amount raised € 500.00.

Pallotine Mission. The Pallotine church gate collection held on the weekend of the 16th / 17th May. The amount raised was € 694.51. The Pallotine Family wish to thank the people of Killenaule / Moyglass for their generousity.

Scoil Ruain. Good times together was the theme of the Scoil Ruain Graduation Mass in the school last week.
50 Students graduated, they were accompanied by their parents. The Mass was celebrated by Fr. Joe Tynan school Chaplain, Fr. Francis McCarthy Assistant Chaplain and Fr. Liam Ryan PP.
The music was under the direction of Joan Costigan and the organist was Cora Stapleton. Each of the Graduates was presented with a beautiful class photo. Presentations were also made to the Principal, Vice Principal, and other members of Staff. All the Graduates were wished every success in their future lives.
Parents and Pupils then shared in the refreshments laid on by School Management.
Congratulations to the Scoil Ruain junior hurling team who won the Munster final with a win over Cork champions Clonakilty 1-22 to 0-8.

Moyglass Graveyard. A Church door collection will be held in Moyglass and Killenaule on the last weekend of each Month to raise funds for the extension to the graveyard in Moyglass, beginning on 30th /31th May 2009.

Killenaule A.R.A. The Monthly meeting of Killenaule Active Retirement will be held on Tuesday 16th June 2009 at 2.30 P.M.in St.Mary's Hall. On Friday 22nd May a very successful coffee morning and exhibition of art and crafts produced by members of Killenaule A.R.A. was held in St. Mary's Hall in aid of Alzheimers Association.

Killenaule G.A. A. Killenaule Junior A hurlers got off to a good start to their season with a win over Newcastle in Monroe last Saturday evening by 0-17 to 1-09. This weeks Player of the Past is Michael Hassett who excelled at juvenile level before winning his first medal in 1976 at under 21 hurling. He added two more hurling titles a football title and a minor title. He won a junior football title in 1984 and starred for the seniors in 1988. He was a top class athlete on road and track and an out and out sportsman.
The winning lotto numbers this week: 6 17 21 23. There was no jackpot winner. There was three match 3 winners.Nicholas Maroney, Drangan. Margeret Brennan,c/o Kay Shaw. Kathleen Brennan c/o Bingo.

Week 24-05-09

 

The Barnardos Little Tibet Trek Two Killenaule men have been accepted to take part in the Barnardos Little Tibet Trek, which is taking place next October 09 over a ten day period and will cover 200 miles by foot Jamie Lawlor of Graigue and PJ Hayes of Bailey Street are intending to raise over €12000 for Barnardos. The two lads are trying to organise many events over the summer and are kicking off their campaign with a golf classic in Slievenamon golf course on the 12th of June so please support this worthy cause

Irish Cancer Society Thanks. The ammount collected in Killenaule and Moyglass was € 894 and 81 cent. This will help to make a differance in the lives of people affected by cancer. Thanks very much for your kindness.

Photos of Easter Mass on Derrynaflan & Confirmation Day. Any person interested in having photos of these great events in our parish. These can be had by contacting Edward Maher, Pike Street, Killenaule.

Coolquill A.C. In the county juvenile athletics championships held over three days in Templemore, Coolquill athletes won nine gold, five silver and five bronze medals. Shane Prout won gold in under 18 Long Jump, Triple Jump and 100m Hurdles, silver in 100m sprint and bronze in the Shot Put and Javelin. Lorraine O'Shea took gold in under 16 girls 100m, 200m and Long Jump. Darren Prout won gold in under 13 boys Long Jump, 75m Hurdles, High Jump and silver in 80m sprint. Leanne Prout won silver in girls under 13 80m. Eoin Troy won bronze in under 12 boys High Jump,Hurdles and Ball Throw.Alice Browning won silver in girls under 10 Ball Throw. Well done to all athletes.

First Communion-St. Mary's Killenaule. Twenty one children from Killenaule and Ballinure will receive their First Holy Communion on Saturday 23rd May.We pray for a fine day for children and parents.

G.A.A. Congratulations to the Killenaule Minor football team who qualified for the South minor 'B' championship with a victory over Ballyporeen last week by 1-11 to 0-7.The senior hurling team had another good win by defeating Ballybcon/Grange on a scoreline of 3-18 to 2-12. Player of the week is Gus Brown who starred at full forward on the Under-10 Hurling team. Player of the Past is Donal McGettigan who gave many years of service to Killenaule in both hurling and football.Donal played on both Junior and Intermediate teams for many years. He was the star player when Killenaule won the South Senior title after an absence of 25 years.

Sympathy. Sincere sympathy to the Feehan family Helenpark on the recent death of Martin Feehan (Snr) and the Healy family Grangebarry Moyglass and Castlequarter on the recent death of Chrissie Healy.

Week 17-05-09

Pallotine Fathers Missions. Church gate collection in aid Missions on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May in Killenaule and Moyglass please give genersously.

Killenaule Active Retirement. As part of the Bealtine Festival Killenaule A.R.A. is holding An exhibition of photographs,crochet, paintings ect.in conjunction with a Coffee-Tea Morning in aid the Alzheimer's Association in St. Mary's Hall on Friday 22nd May from 9 a.m.to 1 p.m.

Killenaule Rovers win Silver. Killenaule Rovers A.F.C. team added their name to the Paddy Purtill Cup sponsored by Shamrock Lounge Cahir when they beat Killusty by 2goals to 1goal.The compition is played between teams from the First and Second Divisions of the Tipperary South District League. Team: Ian Hickey,Paul Russell, Paul Cooke,Pat Bolger, Michael Fitzgerald, Michael Bolger,Andrew Hanley,Will Charles, Tadus Madiluka, Ger Ivors and Brian Murphy.Subs. James Carroll, Willie O'Connor.

Table Quiz. On Friday 1st May, A very successful Table Quiz, Raffel and Auction was held in the Corner House, organised by Mary O'Connor to raise funds for Lucy Connolly who is travelling to Africa to participate in Tara Project Africa Build.Lucy would like to thank all who supported the fundraiser.

Daffodil Day Fund. A cheque for € 5.000 was presented to Julie Harris representing Irish Cancer Society at Hotel Minella Clonmel on Tuesday 7th May,proceeds of fundraising by Killenaule Branch Daffodil Day. The local branch would like to thank all who supported events in any way.Thanks to all and good health in the future.

Birthday Celebrations. A very special afternoon was held recently in Bailey House Nursing Home, when five residents,Josie, Kathleen, Matty, Jimmy and Roundy celebrated with a birthday party hosted by their matron Lily. It was a very enjoyable party with music provided by Joan O'Brien, Roundy Lawlor and Joe Carroll .The celebrations ended with congratulations to the Matron on her recent run of luck with her shared horse Dunguib,and wishing her luck in the future.

Killenaule G.A.A. Well done to the minor football team who defeated Carrick Swan in the South'B' quarter final by 4-07 to 0-08. Player from the past- This weeks Player of the past is Tom (Ollie) Cooke. As he says himself he was the best bit of " stuff " ever to pull the jersey on. Ollie played in all grades for the club and had a very unusual head gear, a white hankerchief tied with with four knots at the corners. In his last match at Coolbawn Cross, he scored three goals for Laffansbridge. Player of the week is Aiden Croke who stared for the under -14 football team in their match against St. Patricks. G.A.A. lotto. The winning lotto numbers this week were: 3-6-14-15.This weeks jackpot was not won. There were 3 match 3 winners Stephen O'Brian Rosegreen, Mossie Mullins Graigue, Tom Fanning Monslatt. Jackpot next week € 2,400.


Week 10-05-09

Word of Thanks. Daffodil Day Committee wish to thank all who supported their Fundraising night on Friday 24th April in St.Mary's Hall. Special thanks to Kathleen &Tom Sheedy for their presentations of Floral Arrangements and tips on gardening and their generosity to the Daffidill Day fund. Amount raised on night € 330 and total raised this year just over € 5,000.

Scoil Ruain - The Parents Association of Scoil Ruain will hold a bucket collection in aid of Irish Guide Dogs for The Blind and to fund the purchase of equipmet for the school. It will be held over the weekend of Friday May 8th and Saturday May 9th and will take place in Killenaule, Thurles and Clonmel.
Congratulations to second year student Jack Shelly who hails from Mullinahone who was recently crowned with his third All Ireland Boxing title in a row in the Juvenile Championships at the National Stadium Dublin.

Senior Citizens. Reminder to all Members next meeting is on Wednesday 13th May in St. Mary's Hall at 2.30pm.

Garden Club. Next Meeting on Tuesday 12th May in Sports Complex at 8.00pm. Guest speaker on night Brian Sheehy. Membership fees of € 20 is now due, new members welcome.

Killenaule G.A.A. The Senior Football team played their first match of the season in the South Tipperary Championship last Monday evening in Clonmel.They lost to Moyle Rovers by 2-15 to 0-9.
Killenaule G.A.A. Lotto Winning numbers were 1-3-25-26. The Jackpot of € 2,000 was not won.
Five match three Winners: Priscilla Doyle, Rebecca Kerwick, Shirley Kennedy, John Hodnett, Ann and Marianne c/o Butlers Sportsbar, Fethard.
Next Monday Nights Jackpot rises to € 2,200.

Week 2nd May 2009

Speech & Drama Classes. Speech & Drama Classes have commenced in St.Mary's Hall and will continue for ten weeks. The Teachers are very happy with the response to the classes received.

Killenaule Library. Killenaule Library opening hours are now back to normal since 21st April 09 as follows: Tuesday 2 - 5pm and 6 - 8 pm. Wednesdy 2 - 5pm. Thursday 11am -1pm and 2pm -5pm. Friday 2pm - 5pm.
If you are a member of any Tipperary Library you can borrow books from Killenaule Library. You can also return books borrowed from other Tipperary Libraries to Killenaule.
If there is a certain book you require they will be happy to have it ordered into the Killenaule Library for you. Membership - Adults € 7-00 / O.A.Ps €1-50 / Children Free.

Sr. Vianney Moloney -Holycross/ Killenaule. The cousins of Sr. Vianney who have returned home after visiting her, tell of her work in Kaoma for 30 years and later as first nurse and Co-ordinator of the Aids Programme for the Doiceses of Mongo. The Kaoma Chesire Home has now 138 orphans. In 2007 the late President of Jambia conferred on Sr. Vianney the prestigious honour of Grand Commander of the Companion Order of Freedom, one of Zambia's highest state honours.

Slieveardagh Rural Development - Biodiversity Day at Lough Doire Bhile Glengoole. An Educational and fun Day will be held at Lough Doire Bhile on Friday 22nd May 2009, in conjunction with the Heritage Council and South Tipperary County Council. A Community Picnic, walks and much more will take place. All are welcome.

Alzheimers Day. An Alzheimers Tea Day will be held in the Tea Rooms at the rear of Centra Supermarket on Thursday 7th May from 9.00 a.m.-12.30 p.m. Sponsored by Centra.
Please call in for a cuppa to support the Alzheimers Tea Day.

Killenaule G.A.A. Congratulations to the Senior Hurlers who had their second win of the season in the South Tipperary championship last Sunday with a splendid victory over Mullinahone. Killenaule 0-22 Mullinahone 0-11.
It was a superb win for the team who now have two victories in the championship this season.
The club also took to the stage on last Friday night presenting the Killenaule and Moyglass" People of the Year Awards 2009". It was very enjoyable night whitch included a marvellous performance by Denise Moloney School of Dancing and the launch of the Killenaule G.A.A. Lotto.
