Thank You
Thanks to everyone who helped to make the Christmas Celebrations in St. Mary’s Killenaule and St. Joseph the Worker Moyglass, so memorable. It was full Churches. The Midnight Mass in St. Mary’s was celebrated with great devotion and reverence. The Folk Group added immensely to the celebrations and were specially congratulated by the congregation. It was the only Midnight Mass in the Archdiocese.

Christmas Crib
A Special Word of Thanks to Wally Mackey who each year carries out the erection of the Crib each year, which many people visited at Midnight Mass and through the Christmas Holidays.

Fás Team
We express our thanks to the Fás Team for their work throughout the year. They were always ready and co-operative to give a working hand when called upon.

The Late Sineád Lee
The crowds of people who attended the various Ceremonies and Prayers for the Repose of the Soul of Sineád Lee; was looked upon as the greatest crowds ever seen in the locality.  Sineád who died at a young age was deeply involved in Killenaule Soccer Club (Killenaule Rovers); who on the occasion of the arrival of the remains to St. Mary’s Church and on the day of the burial, saw guards of honour led by the Killenaule Club of whom she was Club Secretary.Dressed in the Club Colours and led by a lone-piper through the town; will be remembered and talked about for a long time to come. May She Rest in Peace.

The Derrynaflan Hoard
Again the Derrynaflan Hoard is taking Centre Stage, with many groups interested in having the Derrynaflan Hoard returned to the historic site. Our Archbishop has added his support and his position as Archbishop of Cashel / Emly. Should it, when it, returns, it would give a great lift to the town and surrounding district. A place to visit and bring crowds.

Local Schools to battle for Credit Union Schools Quiz Honours
Local schools have been invited to participate in the first stage of the nationwide 2013 Irish League of Credit Unions’ School Quiz competition, being run by Thurles Credit Union in the Premier Hall, Rossa Street, Thurles on Friday 1st February 2013 at 7.30 pm.
Over 25,000 schoolchildren under the age of 13 will compete in over 300 venues throughout the 32 counties. The questions, compiled by primary school teachers, will cover such general topics as geography, history, music, literature and sport.
This is the 22nd successive year that the Schools Quiz has been organised by the Irish League of Credit Unions. It consists of two ‘knock-out’ stages, which will culminate in a National Final in Dublin in early April, when 100 qualifying teams will compete.
In addition to certificates and prizes to the winning teams’ members, the winning schools will also receive a welcome cash prize.
In 2012, Scoil Ailbhe, Thurles successfully retained their titles in both sections (U11 and U13) in the first round of the National Credit Union Quiz and no doubt will be back again to defend their titles in 2013. In the U11 competition Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa, Urlingford finished second, while Moycarkey National School and Scoil Angela, Ursuline Primary Thurles shared third place. In the U13 competition, there was a three way tie for second place with Scoil Na Maighne, Scoil Íosagáin, Upperchurch and Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa, Urlingford all finishing with the same number of points.

Further information is available from Thurles Credit Union (Telephone 0504 91700), on our website (www.thurlescu.ie) and on our facebook page.
