Death
The death occurred on Wednesday, November 14th, of Mr. William Stephens, of Dunguib, Killenaule, at St. Patrick’s Hospital, Cashel. Killenaule and the surrounding areas mourn one of the oldest members in the community. A jovial character, always in good humour, his unassuming friendly presence will be greatly missed. A devout Catholic, devoted husband and loving father, he will be sadly missed by his wife, sons and daughters, grandchildren, relatives, and many friends, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy. His remains were removed from the hospital on Wednesday night to St. Mary’s Church, Killenaule, and following Requiem Mass his internment took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery before a large and representative attendance, bearing ample testimony to the esteem in which he was held in the locality. Rev. T. O’Brien, PP, officiated at the Requiem Mass and burial, assisted by Rev. Fr. T. Breen, CC, and Rev. T. Furlong, CC. May he rest in peace.

The committee of the community centre, Ballinure, wish to thank all who supported their “25” drive held in the Shamrock Hall, Ballinure, on Sunday November 11th, in aid of the famine-stricken people of Ethiopia.
Youth Club
The newly-formed youth club is getting under way and a great response was received in sponsorship for the bicycle tour from Killenaule, around the parish, into Moyglass and back to Ballinure. Over sixty teenagers took part under the leadership of Rev. Father T. Breen, CC, and the adult helpers. We wish this club every success for the future. The meetings and social events are held in the community centre, so if you are interested get in contact with any member of the committee.
Adult Education
Killenaule is a chosen centre for University College, Cork adult education. Short-term courses for 1984-85 will be on Irish and World affairs. Lectures will commence on next Tuesday, October 16th, and continue for six subsequent Tuesday nights. Each session will begin sharply at 8 pm and will be for two hours. The venue is Scoil Ruain (Vocational School), Killenaule, and well-known lecturers will attend. The course will consist of lectures on “De Valera”, “The Future of Irish Society,” Archbishop Croke and the early years of the GAA, the contribution of the GAA to the making of modern Ireland, “Irish population in Transition”, “Africa, between East and West,” and “Ireland in International Affairs”. Discussions and questions on the subject each night and you may enrol by post or by calling to the school. The Rovers Football Club Killenaule, wish to thank all who subscribed so generously to their collection, which was held last Sunday. The Rovers Club will hold a dance in the Camán Inn, Killenaule, on this Saturday night, December 1st, in aid of the Sports Complex.

A coach service will operate to Waterford every Sunday evening serving the following areas; leaving Urlingford at 7 p.m., Gortnahoe 7:05; Ballysloe 7:10; New Birmingham 7:15; Ballynonty 7:20; Killenaule 7:25; Fethard 7:40; Cloneen 7:55; Drangan 8:00; Mullinahone 8:10; Nine-Mile-House 8:20; Grangemockler 8:25; Carrick-on-Suir 8:40; arriving at Waterford Regional College at 9:15 pm. Congrats
Congratulations to Mr. Richard Meehan, Lismortagh, Killenaule, who completed the Dublin City Marathon in a time of three hours twenty minutes. Richard collected a considerable sum of money for the restoration of the church in Lough Derg, Co. Donegal.
Recent Death
Our deepest sympathy to Miss Mary Murphy and Mrs. Nellie Fanning of Laffansbridge, and the Mockler family of Cobh Co. Cork, on the death of their aunt, Miss Sarah Mockler, late of Laffansbridge, Killenaule, which occurred at the residence of her niece in Cobh. Sarah was a kind, gentle lady, a devout catholic, who bore her illness with true Christian fortitude and her passing is deeply regretted by all who knew her. Rev. Fr, John Morris, CC, Newport, travelled to Cobh for the Requiem Mass and internment.
Wedding
The wedding, with Nuptial Mass and papal blessing, took place in Killenaule, on Saturday, October 27th, of Miss Geraldine Fogarty, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Fogarty, of St. Mary’s Road, Killenaule, to Mr. Danny Mullins, of St. Patrick’s Place, Fethard. Rev. Fr. O’ Brien, PP, celebrated the Mass and officiated at the ceremony. The bridesmaid was her sister, Anne-Marie, and the best man was Danny’s brother. The reception was held was at the Clonmel Arms Hotel. We wish Geraldine and Danny many long years of married happiness.
ICA Officers
The annual general meeting of the Killenaule Guild of the ICA was held on Monday, November 5th. Officers elected for coming year-President; Margaret Maher; Vice-president-Patricia Burke; Secretary-Lily Barrett; Assistant Secretary-Eileen Hall; Treasurer-Ann Boland; Assistant Treasurer-J. O’Connell; Grianan Representative- Ita Mullins; Contest Secretary- Mary Costelloe; International Officer-Bonnie Daly; Committee members; Ann Hayes, Eileen Carroll, Breda Quinn, Mrs. Peg Bermingham, VCO, was present.
Recent Wedding
The wedding with Nuptial Mass and Papal Blessing, took place in Ardfert Church, Co. Kerry, of Miss Ita Lyons, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lyons of St. Mary’s Road, Killenaule, to Mr. Patrick Dowling, of Ardfert. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The three bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters; Betty Lonergan, Nora Forrestal, and Eileen Glasheen, and the best man was and groomsmen were brothers of the groom.
Re-elected
Dr. Patrick Upton has been re-elected to the U.C.D. Governing Body. Pat is the brother of Mrs. Ann Fahey of Graystown, Killenaule who teaches at Scoil Ruain, Killenaule and Ann would like to express her appreciation of the support of UCD graduates in the Killenaule area and in Co. Tipperary in general. Dr. Upton is a nutrition expert and a lecturer in the Vetinary college in Ballsbridge, UCD. He was recently appointed a member of the National Board for Science and Technology.
Late Mr. John Joe Lacey
It was with deep regret that the people of Moyglass and many surrounding areas received the very sad news of the death of Mr. John Joe Lacey of Arbour Hill, Moyglass, which occurred suddenly at his residence in the early hours of Tuesday morning, October 165th. He was indeed a very popular and respected man of the farming community, a devout Catholic, devoted husband and loving father. He was always pleasant and good humoured and will be sadly missed in his parish by young and old. His remains were removed to St. Joseph the Worker Church Moyglass, on Tuesday evening and burial took place in the adjoining cemetery after Requiem Mass on Wednesday. Rev. Fr. T. O’Brien, PP, officiated, assisted by Rev. Fr. T. Furlong, CC, Rev. Fr. T. Breen, CC, who was assisted by many of the clergy from the adjoining parishes. The vast congregation which attended on both days was indeed a sure indication of the esteem in which John Joe and his family are held. He is survived by his wife Nora, sons John and Joe, daughter Mary, sister Kitty, cousin Tommy Kennedy, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and friends, to whom we would like to extend our deepest sympathy in their great loss.
