Ash Wednesday 13th February 2013
The First Meeting of the Senior Citizens for 2013 will be held in St. Mary’s Hall. The opening ceremonies will commence with Mass invoking the Blessing of God on all our Senior Citizens, as it is Ash Wednesday and the commencement of the Lenten Season, the Blessed Ashes will be blessed and distributed to all present. It is hoped to have a full house for the occasion.
Why Do we use Ashes at the start of Lent
Ashes are a grim reminder that the things of this world do not last forever. Dust thou art and into dust thou shalt return. Being marked with Ashes is a public sign that one is taking on some act of penance during Lent. Lent is a preparation for the renewal of our Baptismal Commitment to Christ at Easter.
