Sunday Reflection

Our Second Reading today prays ‘may god himself, the God of peace, sanctify you trhough and through’. What does it mean to be ‘sanctified’, to be ‘mad holy’? We suffer today from some very skewed ideas about those who are ‘holy’: the caricature is of people who are otherworldly, excessively serious, and who suffer from bouts of ‘holier-than-thou-ism’.Yet nothing could be further from the truth. To be holy is to be ‘whole’ , ‘well-rounded’, exuberant with life (‘rejoice always’). And, most importantly, to have hearts full of gratitude (‘give thanks in all circumstances’).

In the words OF Ronald Rolheiser, ‘the holiest person you know is the most grateful person you know’.

Christmas Festivities – Three local clubs held their annual Christmas dinner during the week. On Sunday 7th December, the active retirement held their function in the Anner Hotel, Thurles. On Tuesday 9th December the Flower and Garden club held their Christmas party in the Slieveardagh Rural Development Centre in Killenaule. On Wednesday 10th December, the senior citizens travelled to the Minella hotel, Clonmel. There was marvellous food served at all functions and the exchange of gifts was an added bonus at all events. Thanks to all the committee members who organised these events. Also thanks to the musicians and local priests Fr.Jimmy O’Donnell and Fr.Danny O’Gorman who attended all functions.

On behalf of Crohane and Killenaule coursing club, we would like to thank everyone who supported the benefit night at Thurles greyhound stadium and to everyone who donated the spot prizes.
