Kilbrennal church was in ruins in 1615. This church was dedicated to St. Brendan and the proper name for it as Kilbrandon; also the true name of the townsland. It was situated in the pre-reformation parish of Kilcooly but in the Roman Catholic parish of Killenaule.
Kilbrennal church was situated on the right side of the Ballynonty/Laffansbridge road. The field in which it was situated is now owned by Mr. Patrick Joyce, Kilbrennal House, and the church site is across the road from the back of the house. the field was twelve acres in size and was known as church field.
